Wind farms are extremely expensive to set up... and they can't operate in strong winds! Bet a few suffered yesterday when the entire rail network in Scotland was closed due to the wee breeze. In a way, they do wreck the environ, Swan. Made mostly of aluminium that is tough to extract... uses a stack of electricity cos it's extracted by electrolysis. Also, the copper for the windings comes from (mostly) South America... thon Chilean miners were involved in copper extraction.

I'm gonna go with "the floorboards". ...and that cherry wood is terrific stuff if ya know someone who uses a smoker.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Northern Gateway pipeline. They still hafta the green light from the feds before they can proceed, but I think it was a gimme considering that we're talking about the wishes of "big dollars". Look at how much moola had already been invested before the whole affair found it's way into the spotlight. It was just a matter of time.

Enbridge isn't actually about frakking; it is a pipeline to ship raw bitumen between provinces to Kitimat... different but, related topic. wow, I can not believe that about frakking under your homes I can see that possibly causing a shitload of problems! Besides the obvious poisoning the ground/well water; couldn't it also cause issues for house foundations etc. ? Do you not buy your property when buying a house there?

I can see that possibly causing a shitload of problems! .... Yes all of which will apparently be the home owners responsibility. Any damage to the environment done by fracking will be paid for by the tax payer rather than the fracking companies.
Besides the obvious poisoning the ground/well water; .... Yup! It is so fracking obvious isn't it! For fracksake!
couldn't it also cause issues for house foundations etc. ? .... Oh yes and this is something that has been already recorded, but due to a long history of coal mining in this country the govt are experienced in passing the buck.
Do you not buy your property when buying a house there? .... Yup. In theory. Which is why what the govt are doing is illegal. One could argue however, and I'm sure they will, to the depth under the house of what is considered ownership.

Yeah, we've got red tape hooey out the yin-yang related to property rights here in Canada too. Surface rights are what most have and mineral rights is virtually all government owned nowadays. I just had a boo and I ain't about to even try and wade through all the BS that it encompasses. Bottom line is that I'd bet my bottom dollar that they could do the same here as the crap you're referring to over there.

Have politicians ever really been for the people? Here in the US they make laws for the rest of us to follow and exempt themselves.

A good example of how perverse they are, here in the Seattle Area it was decided to have a monorail link West Seattle to downtown. The people voted it down, but they pushed it thru. People were forced to sell their businesses and homes. Eventually the whole thing was scrapped. Those businesses and home owners were not given the opportunity to re-buy and the city made a tidy profit when they sold those properties.
