School buses...... again. (school started for the masses on Tuesday around here) Although they can sometimes be a real pain in the butt for regular folks driving, I'd wager they ain't nearly as bothersome a sight for us folks as they are for kids who wouldn't bother going to school if'n they weren't forced. (kinda like I was occasionally as a young whipper-snapper )

I don't understand how you can cut welfare and unemployment benefits unless you can create jobs...jobs that people can make enough to live. People do want to work, I have always believed. Here I know many, including myself, who will take two or more jobs to make ends meet. No choice with the very limited benefit system here and very high cost of living.... But we also have millions who slip through the cracks who can't get work and get nothing in benefits...something I had hoped England would never do to their people.

I understand that the politicians are just out for themselves and don't give a stuff about the country.
They are making it easy for the wrong people to get the money and the people who need it to not get it. I dunno Willow, it's all nuts.

I just wonder how vast the rift between the "haves" and the "have nots" will hafta widen before revolutions grow to where they can no longer be suppressed.

I looked for stats on how much of the budget for Welfare actually gets to the recipients and was upset not to find it. I seem to recall that just 10 yrs ago less than half of the Welfare budget actually went to the recipients and that more was spent administering Welfare. Can anyone help me find the stats?

Didn't know which country you meant, bug....here's a link to show the exact breakdown of the money and how it was distributed in the UK for the two previous years. Scroll down to the 'Data Summary' in blue. www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/jan/08/uk-benefit-welfare-spendingI can't find the same breakdown for US, (as to how much goes to benefit departments' admin and how much to the people), but this link enlightened me, showing quite clearly how much of the total budget goes to benefit-type things. www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=1258

Thank you. I saw those, but what I was looking for was information that used to be easier to find (US). It showed us budget for welfare and how much went to admin costs and what the recipients actually received. It was a real eye opener how admin costs are out of control.

Yes, as I said, I couldn't find it for US either, but the UK link shows that info and it's not as high as you thought.
I just put the US link up because the total for the whole of welfare type benefits, including medicare and medicaid and soc. security, was a far greater percentage of the entire budget than I had realised, that's all.

The problem with stats, ladies, is that they are the lies that the teller wants people to hear, so they differ depending on where you get the info from.
