I've been dealing with a deep hip muscle injury (psoas, piriformis, that whole area) for a long time. Have tried everything under the sun---walking it off, deep tissue massage, chiropractic, different yoga sequences, along with meditation---recently happened upon 'Restorative Yoga',
Hesitate to say 'Its a miracle!' because the things I tried before I also touted as 'miraculous'...unfortunately only for a little while.
The mantra being 'some days are good, some not'---thinking I'm on track now for 'more days are good'!
Big ;-)

^^^ Awwww Man a hip is a painful area to hurt esp trying to sleep.
I have horrendous arthritis in my knees and hips that started hurting really bad in my early 30s. I started taking MSM (organic sulfur) about XX years ago. 1000 mg 4 times a day, then backed down to 3. I was taking Lodine amd Celebrex from the time I was 32 to 42 and it was burning my stomach,so I had to look into non RX things and tried a ton of stuff before finding the sulfur worked so good.
I dont know if it would help your pain but you would know in a couple of weeks and your finger nails and skin would love it.It takes longer to notice that tho.6 months about. Its in most hair and skin "repair formulas"sold in health food stores.
I put my older Basset Lucy on it many years ago since I didnt want her to have liver damage from the pain meds.It worked great for her too until she was almost 18.
Anyhoo..the stuff is generally good for you and it wont hurt you to try it if you are inclined.Vitamin C seems to enhance it for me,so I take 500mg C to 1000mg MSM 3 times a day. If it gets cold I may up it another 1000 mg a day for a while.

My older sister by four years has recently noticed some arthritic (her son-in-law is a doc and told her this so who knows!?! LOL) symptoms. She is an active person, used to run and now is having some hip issues. Will clue her in on your experience with things.
Thanks for the input. My 22 yr old massage therapist informed me that most folks my age also have hip issues. Sort of made me feel OK.
I guess~
hahahahahaha

Have you tried acupressure for piriformis @estelle? Not sure if it is viable at all for it.

I asked my massage therapist about it. The muscles involved are buried deep within the area, so no needle can penetrate.
Sorry I was talking acupuncture.
I think deep tissue massage is akin to acupressure.

I have been surprisingly happy with how adding turmeric to my eggs every morning for the last 3 weeks has made me feel.I am quite liberal with it.Yummy too.
Received a TRX system for home use for Christmas. *LOVE* IN* IT*.

I do lean over barbell for back. I'm still going a bit, but the last week I've eased of until January to let body recover. Walk have gotten smaller too.
