I'm no fan of dinner dates either. Rarely go out to eat, on occasion with family or friends. Actually prefer to eat alone while reading something. An ice cream cone on a hot day and a walk down by the river would be lovely though.Won't break anybody's bank~ The joys of "Small Town Minnesota" !

Seriously? You typed that? Bollox. Most women I know exude natural beauty and do not constantly slap on the war paint. Get a grip. Or extract the tongue from cheek if you were just looking for a reaction.

I didn't get all dolled up when I was dating. It's not comfortable. Occasionally there might be a reason to get dressed up, but usually not.

Most of these things we purchase for a date get multiple uses. Do both parties need to bring a detailed list of those things to figure out who spent more and who should pay?

I won tickets to a Sponge concert at the house of Blues in Orlando off Cro Radio (Daytona station thats been gone). They did an awesome rendition of Mississippi Queen. I used to win all kinds of tickets, cd's, and dinners off that station. I was glued to my phone with their number on speed dial when listening. They played 90's alternative when it was new, lol.
Thanks for the memories, including the date I took with :) We dated for eight years in an open relationship. Miss that man; we were great friends once upon a time. Funny how much we can change when we thought we never would. Dating is an entirely different world for me at 54.

What you claim occurs in your little corner of the world versus the fact L’Oréal cosmetics alone reel in about 27 billion dollars annually. Hmmm.

There really are geographical differences. Stumour , in this country many women are addicted to enhancing their beauty with makeup, hair products and fake nails just to go out of their homes, never mind on dates when beauty is felt to be necessary in the eye of the beholder and sadly for many, natural beauty is not believed to be as valued or beautiful here. If only we could break free from this unnatural pressure to be anything but natural. And it goes way beyond just makeup and hair products. Even young women in their late teens with money are making plastic surgeons rich by getting their bodies enhanced too. This worries me.

Many Americans can truly be vain. Now that I work part time (its a life choice not to continue to kill myself), I do wear blush, and lip stick when working. My hair does what it wants, so its usually up in a pony. In the south most women of all ages still adhere to the old values of looking nice when leaving the house. I do wear nicer clothing even to the grocery store, and change when I get back home.

Do both parties need to bring a detailed list of those things to figure out who spent more and who should pay? Speak for yourself. Condoms are ONE use only. Cooldog I reflected on what you said a bit more. Actually from my experience many of the things women purchase for themselves to "beautify" themselves is actually for themselves and includes showing off for friends and even women they don't know or like. My girl will spend a large amount of resources on her nails and even toe nails..2 things I barely notice. She knows this. She doesn't do it for me. She does it for herself and showoff for everyone else when the weather is warm and her toes show. Most women I know will spend the same amount on themselves regardless if single, in a relationship, actively seeking, etc. Contrary, except for men with the typical midlife crisis(which still often resolves around trying to impress younger gals), most men I know would in a world without women(of guys for the gay folk) spend very little time on resources on looking ood or smelling good. They would do the bare min. required to fit in at work /social settings and that is it. How many men would get nice haircuts? very little How many get expensive cars and clothing? very little Cologne? none Even today in societies with unequal dating potential that favors men you will see this. For example , Russia and most eastern Euro countries have the opposite issue that men have here. It is like Bazarro world. The men, on average having a ingrained communist attitude do value fitting in and today that means nice stuff. However culturally it is considered un manly to "look good" and for women " un feminine to look not do best to look their best. Therefore you have a society where the women literally spend lots of money not only to impress and fit in but to attract men. They dress to the nine's to look good. Doesn't mater if they walk the dog. They have to dress up, do their hair , put on tons of cosmetics. It is even fashionable for women to take classes on pleasing men(in Moscow big business). What do men do? Walk out of the home with unkept hair(if they didn't shave it off already). Walk around in clothing that smells often and I rarely see jeans that are cuffed , so the material drags on the floor. Rich ones of course dress better but their hygiene seems often still unkept. Things are hanging , but slowly.

All people are vain. Some more than others. We all want to look acceptable at least in a general way. Some women like to get dolled up, some men like to dandy up. No biggie. Do what ya like. And hope someone likes you~

vesuvia, if a woman has more self-confidence when she gets all "dolled up", that's fine. She just shouldn't disparage those women who are secure with their looks, and don't feel the need to use a bunch of artificial accoutrements to make themselves feel more attractive.

Think we are saying the same things in a different way.
We all want to look Pretty.
Not disparaging anyone.
Maybe a new thread on 'artificial accoutrements', get some real life feed back on how/if/ etc they work?
