I love watching the travel shows from America when they go anywhere but the big cities. Billy Connolly done a railroad show. From Chicago to Seattle. Seattle to Los Angeles (I think). LA to Texas. Texas to new York. What was different was he stopped off the train in wee towns along the route. He stopped off in Glasgow as well. Brilliant seeing ordinary Sherman's just doing their daily lives and seeing local events. The mid west, Washington State and the South is where I'd like to visit. And there is an Edinburg in Texas. I'd like to visit there. As a beer drinker Germany was one of the better experiences for me. The Munich beer festival. Top notch stuff

Vesuvia Can you remember the wee place he went where they had the frog festival?
We had another show over here called Travels In Trumpland.
The presenter was a big shot politician who helped keep the elites powerful.
Well until the working class revolution where he was kicked out.
I particularly liked this episode. Working class folk explaining why they voted for president the Donald.
He is at something called the Paycheck festival.
He also goes to small town America. Places like I'd like to visit.

^^^hibbiejim<<<The Jumping Frog Jubilee takes place at the Calaveras County Fair in N. California. It's to celebrate author Mark Twain's short story which brought him to fame---"The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Cavaleras County"---Looks like a good time!
Middle America has County Fairs and State Fairs, usually in late summer when the farmers can take a little time off and let loose~ Small Town America rocks! Flyover land as we're called. Not in a nice way by the so-called 'coastal elites' in the East and West. Totally different vibe. Lots of folks voted for Trump for a whole variety of reasons. Will have to watch your video~

It is great to get to a point that although you are now poor and old, that you have nothing left on your bucket list to attain. You can smile and know you have done it your way.

I'd like to meet some of my cousins in Australia and if it was ever safe to visit ancestral countries on maternal side, Syria and paternal side Scotland & Ireland. Africa would be great too.

I still haven't made it to Hawaii yet, but my partner and I did take a Viking River Cruise from Zürich to Paris late last Summer. After the cruise ended, we took the Eurostar train to London, and spent a few days there before flying back home.
Once thing I've concluded about my various trips over the years is that I prefer to either fly to a destination or take a river cruise. With river cruises, we get off the boat and explore a new city or country each day. I dislike ocean cruises that entail spending a good part of the trip stuck on the ship while it's at sea. I think many ocean cruises are boring for that reason.

Still has to be Barra... was talking to folk from there last night at the Skipinnish gig.... look them up... by plane n not ferry.... gorgeous wee island. Friendly people n ye never go short of rabbit stew!
wee edit... that is where I learned bunny thumping over 40 years ago.
Powerful torch and a baseball bat just before dawn brought in dinner for that evening.... and some fur too.... wasted eff all!

@spectravision they look damn good.... think I'd give them a shot too.
The old Roman lead mines at Matlock Bath are good too. Get the cable car up, though, cos it's a steep ascent!
