Rather a busy few days there.
The wee yin n me gathered elder flower, willow n meadowsweet.
She didn't have enough bottles to make the elder n meadow cordials, so we had to imbibe several Grolsch lager in order to glean the swing top bottles... life can be harsh. Aurie has now discovered a Dutch lager she rather enjoys. Typical Weegie knew it was good!
To think, local store wanted £2.50 a bottle for an empty 250ml swing top... a 450ml full o Grolsch was £1.50.... utter no brainer!!!
More to come on the willow next week, but I picked good green shoots, so a pair o auld basket cases will try making baskets.
ps... meadowsweet is hoachin wi tiny beetles... I do mean HOACHIN!!!!

She's your sweetie. Ok, she's our friend too. Tell her we miss her.
Edit: tell her I've been nagging you.

Believe me, Bug, I HAVE nagged her! Often... she's aye busy on her latest project. Obviously, her one on humanising me was an abject failure. Anyway, I'm just the twunt that gathers... she's already given away a few bottles n I'm still to get as much as a sniff, never mind a taste ffs.
The blackberries, Swan, have other uses. The vines can be used like willow for weaving. Actually better cos o the uniformity of thickness... nae bulging ends to the long, straight bits.

I just wanted to grow a lawn; so much less maintenance now, I wish someone besides the bears would come foraging in my yard!

Pretty much just saskatoons and a few wild strawberries and raspberries, but I'm fazing in replacements for all three as there's not much more than a teaser if I count on Mother Nature as my only supply. I'm gonna catch the Spring bloom of dandelions too next year and fiddle around with some dandelion wine.

Grey, I really would like to grow saskatoons, but they're not available here.
Never mind, she n me have already crossed raspberries n blackberries... our own version of tayberries.
Here, if ye ever get a chance o some red gooseberry vines, snap em up... they're not as sharp as the common green ones, have smoother skins and are extremely juicy.

Not enough precip around here for the juicier stuff like those gooseberries, but we do get a few of the little wild currants which are sorta similar I think. Tasty, but not really enough to bother with. As far the saskatoons are concerned, they're quite tasty but unless we've gotten fairly good moisture for the season and no extended dry spells, they just get too mealy for my liking. The big seeds is why I'm trying to replace them with a Winter-hardy strain of blueberries, but that's meeting little success thus far. The one plant's still living though so I'll try and root several cuttings over the Winter and give it a more serious go next year. Blueberries would do fine there though and are a notably better fruit IMO.

I had a load of other pics too but, they didn't come up, I have 3 colours of currants in the back and, 2 - 3 types of raspberries along with a choke cherry, cherry plums and lord knows what else... Mrs L's blueberries are right on the border of our yards. red white black golden raspberries
