Who knew ? ! ? ! ? . . . ... that one day putting sugar in someone's gas tank could be considered charitable, and a GOOD thing.

Amazing how much "new" tech has been suppressed for years. It's an open secret that Ford have had a ceramic engine sat on a test bed for donkey's tears now. It wouldn't pay to produce an engine that would last far longer and need less oil to lubricate it. Ceramics don't thermally contract n expand like metals do, ye see, so have far less friction in pistons n big ends n that, don't need piston rings and are far lighter.

Just to resurrect this in light of fracking n that... Oil is still being created, but big fuel guzzlers out strip the creation. If only real tech was allowed, we would not see car giants raping the earth to create "greener" cars that cause far more damage to produce than equivalent petrol or diesel car...

Well, all you need to know is the "lightbulb conspiracy", we could probably make stainless steel and aluminum or plastic cars with those ceramic engine parts, modular/upgradable that could last 100 years... but once everyone had one, or could get a used one when someone dies or whatnot, car manufacturers would make all that profit, nor the steel plants, oil drillers (plastics), etc.

Obsolescence is rife... after a printer has done so many pages, it will malfunction... consumerism at its best
The tragic one is mobile phones... they become obsolete by constant upgrades... and they use more energy to produce than a VW air poisoner

The 'smart' phone support gets dropped like a hot potato in under 3yrs typically. Like my Samsung S2, good luck finding a 'current' (android 5.0?) upgrade for it... maybe cyanomodgen has one now, but last I saw for it was a 4.x, and forget support from Samsung entirely. (After all its 4 whole years old!!!).

@forums1 have you tried rooting it and getting 5.1.1 from elsewhere? If you're not on contract that is. Phone companies are arsey at rolling out upgrades... took me near 6 months to get kitkat on my S4 from 3.
Trouble with rooting is that you are violating the contract that likes of Samsung inflict on you for the privilege of spending hundreds on their products. I, personally, think this is a violation. You may spend £5-600 on our hardware, but we will control it is basically what they say.
I rooted my Note 4 only so I could abuse my data plan... a wee app lets me tether it as a hot spot for my lappy. My contract with 3 is unlimited data, but tethering is limited to 8Gb a month To bypass this cap, I had to root. Guess what Samsung did? Issued an update that blocked rooting and sent my phone in to a boot loop. Went to the Samsung shop n they said they could fix it... for £220. After I stopped laughing, I went home, cadged the use of a neighbour's wifi (my phone IS my broadband and wifi), downed the necessary software n sorted it within 10 min... rooted again too

If you remember, Sony tried that shite with the PS3 n ended up losing a class action in the land of Merkins

Ah, it's already rooted Stu, just haven't really been motivated to find a newer OS. I rarely use the thing, doesn't have a SIM in it, no contract - I did put the SIM in from my old flip phone for a few minutes once when the battery died during a call... honestly I don't really want a 'smart' phone, my dumb Nokia flip worked fine - and I'm debating just cancelling it anyways, I never really use it, the battery hasn't even been charged in months.
I only got the Samsung because I wanted something used/cheap to play around with Android programming, doesn't need to be 'online' (I've used it on my WiFi a few times).
