I know! I am getting stronger putting my foot down with him. But honestly, he can be a lazy sod and I've been much too soft with him...so have enabled him. I know it!
My excuse? I have loads of excuses, like he's working today and I'm not. Oh, he's 19, I'm embarrassed to say.

I'm soft on mine too. They do know how to wash and cook though, I need to teach them both the shizzle they'll need to fend for themselves should I be run over by a bus tomorrow.

Laughing, but I totally know what you mean.... for his own welfare and that of any life partner he might join later. To be honest, he's a far better cook than me. He's decided to be that for his career now, so has just gotten a second job in another restaurant which will teach him even more. Ironically, we only have a kitchenette here (tiny counter space with counter top portable burner and oven, microwave, fridge in storage area, etc.), so he can't properly practice his skills...well, not without making adjustments for the limitations here, which I've been doing for years. I once thought I'd write a book on how to cook Thanksgiving dinner for a whole family with just a portable burner and toaster oven! Took all day, literally, but came out yummy! (Since then I have graduated to a proper counter top oven...much better and bigger!)

I can't cook either Willow. Does he cook you lovely dinners? I'm in the middle of cooking the Sunday Roast here, I bet he's better at that than me.
Why have you got no kitchen?

Ahhh...well, it's a little complicated to explain. I'll try and do it simply. It all has to do with property taxes from when this house was built. First of all it's a basement apartment, but rooms, (or square footage of living space) are added up for the whole house to determine property tax cost (like council tax there, in a way), which are exorbitant here, btw. As long as you don't have an oven (built-in), then it can't be called a kitchen, first of all, since the building permits were never for a house with two kitchens. Then, in order that it not be classified as a bedroom either all those years ago when it was assessed (or the septic system would not pass as being large enough since that's based on number of bedrooms), in fact we had to take down the wall of this room to the hall, so it was assessed as open basement space and not an official room. Strange, but true. I remember as soon as the inspectors left we put the wall back up again. Believe it or not, I have moved out of this house because it didn't have a proper kitchen...but always returned since the rest of it more than makes up for it.

Your garden etc looks gorgeous so I can understand why you like living there. I suppose a kitchen is however you make it, a couple of tables with cupboards under it makes a good kitchen, and a cooker is only a couple of hob rings if it needs to be.
And the less said about taxes here the better.

Indeed....sorry to bring up 'that' subject. I can't believe it's almost noon now and I'm still sitting here. Course cats are still sleeping too and I'm taking my cue from them.

And the less said about taxes here the better. Even here in Canada (at least a bit of a bastion from governmental greed until not sooooo long ago) they're constantly trying to insert their anal probes deeper and deeper. I s'pose that's just the parasitic way of the world nowadays, no matter where one tries to escape all that.

What time are you working tomorrow Tizz? 11.47am and I have a lazy Sunday planned. I did all my chores yesterday so have nothing to do, so I might actually go back to bed for a nap! Yay! I start work around 8:30 pm when I am cleaning the store, 3:30 pm when I am at the paper Thursdays, 5ish when I clean 205 at Rio Tinto on Tuesdays, every other Sunday I try to get started sometime between noon and, 2 pm at the very latest!... Yesterday I was at the store only :) It's almost 3 am again... just about nap time! 7:30 am band class for my oldest (15). The only chore I seem to be able to get my kids to do on occasion is emptying the dishwasher; for some strange reason they can not figure out how to reverse that process... nor are they very co-operative when asked to do anything else around here. I always say that I've spoiled them lazy. I was a stay at home for most of their lives and, didn't mind doing everything for them... now I wish I had started them on regular chores as soon as they could walk!! My youngest(13)always tells me he does know how to do more but, he doesn't have to 'cause I am here to do it for him. When I am not here he will do it for himself.

Yes, that's where I went wrong also with my kids. I used to only work part-time in England, so was around a whole lot more. Then when I had my youngest when the older two were 10 and 12, and he didn't have a dad....well, as I said, I am full of excuses, but I know full well I've spoiled him and the others due to trying to make up for the things I felt I wasn't providing them. The thing is, the older two have grown up to be quite responsible, and my youngest too, he'll clean up his room and his things, and when he does help me occasionally, (and even spontaneously very occasionally) he does a great job!

as soon as they could walk, they would have been much more eager to please us though

Indeed! And love that pic!! Washing up, just realised I left out an important ingredient to my kitchen facilities...and seeing that I have to get ready for work now, thought I'd pop on here and add an addendum. Ya know the saying 'everything but the kitchen sink?' Well, it's the opposite here. I do have a wee kitchen sink.

Well, my deck's still buried under a good 6 inches of snow, and it's back to -17 outside with a good breeze

lovely, grey. it's winter alright. the wind here whipped the foot of snow to be over three feet in places...like where it's blown up against the house. even my lady's house is taking forever for them just to make a path so I can walk down to her from the top of the driveway...and they have a plow! i should be out shoveling to try and get the cars out today, but my back is twinging from shoveling yesterday, so here i sit writing instead.
